XPeng G6 Owner-Reported Problems: What the Sources Show by Market

XPeng G6 problems owners actually report: phantom braking, 360-camera lag, XGuard false alerts, rattles and parts delays. By market, with what helps.

Seven months into one Australian owner’s G6 Long Range, the pattern is clear enough to write down — and German forum sentiment plus a UK owner guide fill in the rest. What owners report, across Australia, Germany and the UK, is a cluster of driver-assistance and software quirks owners describe: phantom braking on the highway, a 360° camera that lags in underground car parks, rain-sensing wipers with a mind of their own. Add build-quality niggles like cabin rattles, a sentry mode that cries wolf, and a service network still finding its feet — in Europe, a forum-sentiment compilation that expressly disclaims affiliation with XPENG even documents parts delays measured in weeks. The material cited here mainly covers driver assistance, displays, wipers, rattles and aftersales; it cannot speak to long-term drivetrain reliability. Below, each problem as an owner would ask it, followed by a straight answer and suggested checks and escalation steps. Sources were reviewed as of 23 October 2026; individual reports do not establish whether an issue remains unresolved. Each answer is scoped to the market its evidence comes from.

Scope: where this applies

Honesty first. This article is built from a small set of verified sources, not a statistical survey:

  • Australia: a CarsGuide long-term owner review of a 2025 G6 Long Range after seven months (published 9 January 2026) — the single longest individual ownership account in our sources — plus the Whirlpool G6 discussion thread (active into October 2026).
  • Europe: the July 2026 “Voice of the Customer” report (“XPENG DACH Market Performance Report”, a forum-sentiment compilation from the German XPeng owners’ forum xpeng-fahrer.de) — the file expressly disclaims affiliation with XPENG; it is a compilation of forum sentiment, not a representative survey. Its DACH framing comes from the report’s own title.
  • UK: the owner help site myxpeng.com (XGuard and OTA guides). The G6 only went on sale in the UK in 2025, and the sources cited here are not enough to form a long-term reliability verdict — UK reviewers themselves decline to speculate.
  • China: one market-specific story (the radar controversy) appears at the end, clearly labeled. It is not presented as a European-owner problem.

Owner anecdotes are labeled as such. Manual facts come from the 2025 G6 English right-hand-drive owner’s manual (pages 68–69, PDF page order, cited via the myxpeng.com OTA guide). Claims seen only on AI-aggregator sites, with no owner posts to back them, were left out. Australian reports describe 2025-model cars — they don’t automatically apply to facelift models — and the software versions behind individual reports are unknown, so don’t read them as “still broken as of the observation date”.

“Why does my G6 brake hard on the motorway for no reason?”

Quick answer: the cause is not established in our sources. One Australian owner of a 2025 G6 Long Range reported frequent phantom braking at highway speed, the car drifting toward lane lines, and sharp slowdowns in bends — several hard braking events in highway bends over seven months.

What helps: there is no owner-verified single fix in our sources, so treat any “this update cured it” claim with skepticism — XPeng keeps pushing over-the-air fixes, but no version number is confirmed to resolve it. On this one owner’s car, one pattern stood out: indicating a lane change while cruise control was engaged made the lane-keeping system drag the car back into its lane — he had to cancel cruise before moving over. That is one owner’s experience on one car, not a verified fix, and it doesn’t establish which assistance system is behind the braking events. Take over per your market’s owner’s manual, note the full software version, and report repeat events to your dealer with specifics (where, when, speed) so they can be logged.

“The 360° camera lags in underground car parks. Is mine faulty?”

Quick answer: one Australian owner reported the 360°/reversing camera lagging badly in underground car parks — we have no diagnosed cause, and one report can’t establish how common this is. If your car does it too, don’t just assume it’s normal.

What helps: the owner guessed it was related to the car’s WiFi signal — that’s his own guess, not supported by a diagnosis in the cited material, and we don’t present it as a cause. Keep the car updated (see the OTA question below), and if the lag persists across updates, have the dealer inspect it rather than assuming it’s normal.

“The rain-sensing wipers wipe when it’s sunny and ignore real rain?”

Quick answer: yes, this was reported — by the same Australian owner: wipers sweeping on dry sunny days and sleeping through actual rain. A symptom report can’t tell us whether it’s calibration or hardware.

What helps: the manual stalk override is your friend. No owner-verified permanent fix turned up in our sources. If the wipers throw a fault or behave differently from another G6 you’ve driven, that’s dealer territory.

“My car has six rattles after seven months — is that normal?”

Quick answer: a single owner report cannot establish how common this is; persistent rattles warrant inspection. The Australian owner logged six different rattles in seven months (B-pillar and rear doors, in his case) and scored the car 5/10 for reliability — his own rating, not a fleet average.

What helps: have the dealer inspect rattles and confirm what’s covered under your warranty — don’t assume it’s all free. Film them happening (phone video with the noise clearly audible), note which panel and at what speed, and hand the dealer a list at the next service. Warranty terms vary by market — the UK car carries 5 years/75,000 miles, whichever comes first; continental Europe differs by country, so confirm with your dealer or by VIN before assuming coverage.

“XGuard keeps logging ‘high-risk events’ with nothing there — how do I stop it?”

Quick answer: our sources show no verified universal fix. The UK owner guide on myxpeng.com (published 6 July 2026, updated 5 September 2026) discusses unexplained “high-risk event” flags when the parking spot is empty — but a help page discussing the symptom can’t prove it’s widespread on UK cars.

What helps: start with the footage, then work through the options your car’s software version actually supports, one at a time. The guide’s owner-level checklist covers checking the recordings, cleaning the cameras, trying a quieter, better-lit parking spot, and changing one setting at a time so you know what worked. The exact menu location varies with software version and wasn’t verified for this article — check your own manual.

“My car has sat at the dealer for weeks waiting for parts — and where’s my tow bar?”

Quick answer: reports describe repair and accessory delays — they can’t tell you why your specific car or order is waiting. In Europe, the dealer-service section of the July 2026 DACH “Voice of the Customer” report (page 5; a brand-wide dealer-network assessment from the xpeng-fahrer.de forum, not G6-specific; the report expressly disclaims affiliation with XPENG) reports a “severe lack of spare parts”: “even minor collision repairs (windshields, bumpers) or sensor replacements ground vehicles for weeks due to no central European warehouse stock,” local workshops needing “back-and-forth email loops with Chinese engineering teams” for deep diagnostics, and customers “not systematically provided premium replacement EVs.” In Australia, Whirlpool owner soakes posted on 24 August 2025 that his tow bar order had been waiting three months — still waiting at the time of posting (whrl.pl/RgQkQZ) — while shermozle posted the same day that he had removed the tow bar and all other options from his order before delivery (whrl.pl/RgQkjb). Those were TrueEV-era experiences; XPENG’s Australian FAQ now says XPENG ANZ provides direct support to customers who purchased through TrueEV or its authorised dealers (xpeng.com/au/insight/FAQ). Also from the Whirlpool thread: in a 29 November 2024 reply, whirlpoolmuse reported that cars came with only a Type 2 cable, with the portable granny charger reportedly sent separately after delivery. This is a historical delivery report — check your order’s accessory list rather than assuming.

What helps: order accessories before you need them, and get repair timelines in writing when the car goes in.

“My neighbour got the OTA weeks ago — why haven’t I?”

Quick answer: a later update notification alone does not establish a fault. Whether your car is offered a given update depends on XPeng’s per-vehicle, per-software-version rollout. The DACH compilation also reports delays in EU OTA availability.

The rules that matter: installation needs more than 10% battery, Park engaged, and a safe location; you can’t charge or use the car during installation, and an installation already started must not be interrupted. If installation fails, do not use the vehicle — retry only as permitted on screen while parked; if retries fail, keep the error message and contact service. That’s the manual speaking, not us (2025 G6 English right-hand-drive owner’s manual, pages 68–69, PDF page order, via the myxpeng.com OTA guide; see also the XPeng user manual directory for your market’s version). Menu wording may differ on your market’s manual and software version — unverified paths are left out deliberately.

“I read Chinese G6 owners protested over removed radars — should I worry?”

Quick answer: that is a China-market story, and it should stay labeled as one. Reporting by CarNewsChina (citing a Xinhua-affiliated investigation) says some 2023 Chinese-market G6s had two front-corner millimetre-wave radars removed — five down to three (5−2=3) — while marketing still listed a 31-sensor suite; at least 159 owners signed a joint complaint, and XPeng called it a vision-only hardware upgrade and denied deception. Whether European-spec G6s share that hardware change is not verified — so no, don’t read this as your European car’s problem. If you’re buying, check your own market’s spec sheet.

None of this speaks to the drivetrain holding up or falling apart — our sources simply can’t answer that. The cited material describes reported symptoms and aftersales experiences; it does not establish a common technical cause or a failure rate.
